Alexandra "Alex" Carpenter (* 13. April 1994 in North Reading , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player who since January 2018 at the Shenzhen Vanke KRS Rays from the Canadian Women's Hockey League on the position of the center plays. Carpenter, whose father Bobby was a player in the National Hockey League for many years , has been a member of the United States women's national ice hockey team since 2012 and is multiple world champion.
Career
Carpenter spent her high school years at The Governor's Academy in Byfield , Massachusetts, from 2007 to 2011 . With her as the outstanding player, the team won the regional championship trophy in all four years. The striker ended her school days with 427 points in 100 games. During this period Carpenter had competed with the US national team in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2010 and 2011 . There, after winning the silver medal in 2010, she secured the world championship title the following year. As part of the tournament, Carpenter was named the best striker, she was also top scorer and top goalscorer.
In the summer of 2011, the American moved to Boston College , where she was a member for the next five years. In addition to her studies, she played successfully for the university team in Hockey East , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In her third participation in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2012 , she won her second silver medal and was also named the best attacker in the competition for the second time.
From 2013, the center forward was a member of the United States women's national ice hockey team . At her first major tournament, the 2013 World Cup , she was able to win the world title straight away. The following year, she left Boston College for a season to prepare for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi with the US Hockey Association . In the end there was a silver medal. Then Carpenter returned to Boston College and secured the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award for best college player in the country because of her performances at the end of the season . In addition, she won the world championship again with the national team at the 2015 World Cup. In 2016 and 2017 she won the third and fourth title personally, with her overtime goal making it 1-0 in the final against Canada in 2016, which made a significant contribution to the gold win.
At the national level, Carpenter had meanwhile successfully completed her college years in 2016 by winning the Hockey East championship for the first time. For the 2016/17 season she then moved to the National Women's Hockey League for the Boston Pride , which she had signed in April 2016 in a transfer deal with the New York Riveters . The Riveters had chosen Carpenter as the first overall place in the 2015 NWHL Draft . After a season with the Pride, Carpenter went back to the Olympic preparation with USA Hockey in the 2017/18 season, before she and Megan Bozek were the last two players to be removed from the provisional Olympic squad in January 2018. The American then moved to the women's team of Kunlun Red Star , which she selected in the second round of the 2017 CWHL Draft , in the Canadian Women's Hockey League . At the time of their engagement, the team was mainly looked after by their father Bobby Carpenter .
