Sarah Marie Vaillancourt (born May 8, 1985 in Sherbrooke , Québec ) is a former Canadian national ice hockey player .
Life
Vaillancourt studied psychology at Harvard University between 2004 and 2009 and played with her university team in the ECAC until she graduated . With her team, she was twice college champion and once runner-up. Between 2003 and 2013, she was also a member of the Canadian Women's Ice Hockey Team .
With the Canadian team she won the gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Turin in 2006 and again in Vancouver in 2010. In 2008 she received the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award for best female college ice hockey player.
Vaillancourt is openly gay .
