Career

Rigsby in the Wisconsin Badgers jersey

Rigsby spent her high school years at Arrowhead High School in Hartland , Wisconsin , where she played between 2006 and 2010. During this time, the goalkeeper took part with the US U18 selection in 2009 and 2010 at the U18 World Junior Championship. She won a gold and a silver medal. In addition, she was honored as the best goalkeeper of the tournament at both events and, as a regular goalkeeper, was instrumental in winning the medals. Her achievements during this period were so impressive that she was selected as the first woman in the Entry Draft of the United States Hockey League - the top-tier league for male juniors in the US association system. After graduating from high school in the summer of 2010, Rigsby moved to the University of Wisconsin – Madison , where she stood between the posts while studying for the university team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Right in her rookie season , Rigsby became a regular goalkeeper and won both the division championship of the WCHA and the national college championship of the NCAA with the university. Because of her achievements, Rigsby was also recommended for the United States women's national ice hockey team . She represented them on the international stage for the first time at the 4 Nations Cup 2012 .

As a result, the goalkeeper established herself in the national team and was finally nominated for the 2013 World Cup , in which she remained behind the more experienced competitors Jessie Vetter and Brianne McLaughlin but without a commitment. Nevertheless, she was able to celebrate her first world championship win at the end of the tournament. In preparation for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , Rigsby, who was now in the final year of her studies, lost her squad to Molly Schaus, who was also internationally experienced . After completing her studies, Rigsby joined the league-independent Minnesota Whitecaps , with whom she only played friendly matches and therefore did not take part in league games. In addition, she signed up with the US ice hockey association USA Hockey . So she played the world championships in 2015 , 2016 and 2017 , where she celebrated her world championship title two to four. After being the most frequently used goalkeeper in the US squad in 2015 and 2016, she played a key role in winning the titles, and she lost the regular post at the 2017 World Cup to Nicole Hensley . At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang that followed, Rigsby was only the third goalkeeper in the line-up and remained completely without a stake behind Maddie Rooney and Nicole Hensley. Nevertheless, she celebrated winning the Olympic gold medal with the Americans at the end of the tournament.

For the 2018/19 season Rigsby left the Whitecaps and joined the Calgary Inferno in the Canadian Women's Hockey League . There she celebrated winning the Clarkson Cup at the end of the season . With the US national team, she won the world championship again a few weeks later as a regular goalkeeper.
