Pfalzer attended Nichols High School in Buffalo until 2011 . Instead of being like most US junior players, the trained defender was not active in the system of the US ice hockey association USA Hockey , but played across the border for the Mississauga Chiefs in the Canadian junior league Provincial Women's Hockey League . Nevertheless, she took part with the US girls in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2010 and 2011 . She won silver first in 2010 and gold the following year. After graduating from high school , Pfalzer began studying at Boston College in the 2011/12 school year . In parallel to her studies, she played for the university team in Hockey East , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , for the next four years . During this time the defender debuted at the 4 Nations Cup in 2014 in the United States women's national ice hockey team and took the team on the same play time World Cup 2015 in part. There the defensive player celebrated her first world championship win.

For the 2015/16 season , Pfalzer switched to the professional field and joined the Buffalo Beauts from the newly founded National Women's Hockey League . Over the course of the season, she was given the honor of putting together and leading one of the two teams in the league's first all-star game. In regular play, she reached the championship finals with the Beauts, but was subject to the Boston Pride there . In the following game year , the team returned the favor for the final defeat in the previous year and won the Isobel Cup at the end of the season . The two-year period was rounded off by winning the gold medal at the 2016 and 2017 World Championships .

The defender then turned her back on the Beauts and the NWHL after two seasons and was signed by USA Hockey for the 2017/18 season. In the association, she prepared for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , where she won Olympic gold with the Americans.
