Phoebe Stänz (* 7. January 1994 in Zetzwil ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who since the season 2018/19 when HC Lugano Ladies in the Switzerland women's ice hockey league on the position of the striker plays. Stänz, who is an integral part of the Swiss women's ice hockey team, previously worked at Yale University in the United States .

Career

Stänz played as a junior and 2009 for the ZSC Lions and debuted there at a young age in the women's team of the Association in the performance class A . She then worked for a year with a junior team in Kelowna , Canada, before returning to Switzerland between 2010 and 2012 in the junior department of the EHC Kloten . She then attended Choate Rosemary Hall , a private school in the United States, for a year .

From there, the striker moved to Yale University for the 2013/14 school year . In addition to her studies, she played the following four years for the university team in ECAC Hockey , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . After completing her training, she returned to Europe and played for the SDE HF in the Svenska damhockeyligan at the beginning of the 2017/18 season . At SDE HF she was the top scorer with 23 goals and 8 assists in 37 games. She then returned to Switzerland and was signed by HC Lugano .

International

Stänz made his debut for the U18 junior team at the age of 16. With the team, she took part in the U18 World Junior Championship 2010 in Division I and made it to the top division with the Swiss. The following year, the striker denied both the Under-18 Junior World Cup 2011 and the Women's National Team , the 2011 World Championships . Stänz completed the same program in 2012. She personally finished the U18 World Junior Championship in 2012 as the third best scorer in the competition, but could not prevent Switzerland from relegating. At the 2012 World Cup , she then won the bronze medal with the national selection.

Stänz also took part in world championships in 2013 , 2015 , 2016 and 2017 . But these participations were outshone by winning the bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . Four years later, the offensive player had her second Olympic participation at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang after successfully qualifying.
