Haley Skarupa (born January 3, 1994 in Washington, DC ) is an American ice hockey player who has played in the position of striker at the Boston Pride from the National Women's Hockey League since the 2017/18 season . Skarupa has been a member of the United States' national women's ice hockey team since 2010 and is a multiple world and Olympic champion.
Career
Skarupa was born in the capital Washington, DC , but grew up in Rockville , Maryland . There she attended Thomas S. Wootton High School until the summer of 2012 and played for Washington Pride at the same time . During this period, the striker took part in the US selection in 2010 , 2011 and 2012 in the U18 World Junior Championship. There she was able to win two silver medals and in 2011 the world championship title in this age group. In 2012 she was the tournament's top scorer and top scorer. At this point in time, Skarupa had made his debut as a 16-year-old for the women's national ice hockey team of the United States as part of the 4 Nations Cup 2010 .
For the 2012/13 school year, the attacker moved to Boston College , where she graduated in 2016. Parallel to her studies, she ran for the university team in Hockey East , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the meantime, Skarupa had established himself in the national team and won the world championship title with the US girls in 2015 and 2016 . In the summer of 2016, the offensive player finally moved to the professional field after she was signed by the Connecticut Whale from the National Women's Hockey League . She had received this in a transfer deal from the New York Riveters , from whom she had been selected fifth overall in the 2015 NWHL Draft . She spent the 2016/17 season with the Whale before winning her third world championship title in 2017 .
After the World Cup Skarupa began with the American Hockey Association USA Hockey to the Winter Olympics in 2018 in Pyeongchang prepare. When she saw her chances of being nominated, however, as very slim, she returned to the NWHL. There she joined the Boston Pride , but was soon invited back to the training camp by USA Hockey and ultimately belonged to the US Olympic squad that won the gold medal.
