Yekaterina Vyacheslavovna Smolenzewa ( Russian Екатерина Вячеславовна Смоленцева ; born September 15, 1981 in Pervouralsk ) is a Russian ice hockey player who is a regular player and captain of the Russian national team .
Career
Smolentsewa graduated from the Ural Pedagogical University in Yekaterinburg. At the club level, Smolenzewa played for Tornado Moskovskaya Oblast between 2004 and 2014 , having previously played for Spartak-Merkuri Yekaterinburg . With Yekaterinburg she became Russian champion in 2000 and runner-up in the following three years.
With Tornado, she won six other Russian championship titles - 2000, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2015.
In the 2010/11 season she played for SKIF Nizhny Novgorod and took second place with SKIF at the IIHF European Women Champions Cup 2010/11 .
International
She has been a regular player in the Russian national team since 2002 and took part in four Olympic ice hockey tournaments with them. The national team achieved the best placement in 2002 with fifth place. She also won three bronze medals at world championships.
In 2017 she was banned for life by the IOC for doping at the 2014 Olympic Games.
