The Schenskaja Hockey League ( Russian Женская хоккейная лига ; 2015 Russian Hockey Championship Women , Russian Чемпионат России по хоккею с шайбой среди женщин ) is the highest Russian woman Hockey League . It was carried out by the Russian ice hockey association FHR from 1995 to 2015 , before the league was reformed and has been organized by the Continental Hockey League since 2015 .

history

In 1994 the Russian National Olympic Committee decided to promote women's ice hockey in Russia with a view to the 1998 Olympic Games . 1995 started the first season of the Russian women's hockey championship, which was then held in the form of three tournaments. The first goal of the new competition was scored by Yelena Besschaposhnikova from Spartak Moscow. The first Russian women's champion in 1996 was the Luzhniki Moscow ice hockey club .

Between 1996 and 1999 the women's national team of Kazakhstan took part in the national Russian championship as a visiting team, but sometimes did not complete all tournaments.

Usually six teams took part in the championship, but in some seasons only four or five clubs played for the Russian championship title. In the 2012/13 season, nine teams took part in the league for the first time in history, and in the 2013/14 season the number of teams rose to eleven.

In the summer of 2014 there were various meetings between representatives of the participating clubs, during which a reform of the game operation was discussed. The Russian ice hockey association founded the Shenskaya hockey league in early July 2014, appointed Alexei Yashin as president and Yevgeny Tschischmin as executive director of the league. In September 2014, the founding of the league was presented to the public at a working meeting of the President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) and the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Alexander Medvedev and Vladislav Tretyak .

Due to the difference of opinion between the KHL and the ice hockey association, which related to the establishment of the league without the KHL, the 2014/15 season was still held as a Russian championship as before. On April 23, 2015, the Executive Committee of the Russian Federation approved the transfer of the organization of the Russian Women's Championship to the KHL. On June 19, 2015, the KHL founded the Schenskaya Hockey League again and presented it to the public.
