The 1997/98 season was the third season of the Russian women's ice hockey championship ( Russian Чемпионат России по хоккею с шайбой среди женщин ), the top division in Russian women's ice hockey .

For the third time in a row, the team from ZSK WWS Moscow secured the championship title ahead of Spartak Yekaterinburg and Spartak Moscow.

The third season of the Russian Women's Championship was held from September 14, 1997 to February 24, 1998. It was held in the form of three tournaments, which took place in Samara (September 14-21, 1997), Yekaterinburg (December 10-14, 1997) and Chelyabinsk (February 20-24, 1998).

Seven Russian club teams and again the Kazakh women's national team took part in the championship as a visiting team. The youth sports school DJuSSch-12 Yaroslavl and Meteliza Tscheljabinsk were new to the competition .

In the first tournament, five teams took part in a single round. In each of the following two tournaments, seven teams took part, each of which played a single round in two groups and then the final placement in playoff mode. The final placement in the national championship was determined by the sum of the individual placements in the three tournaments.

In the first tournament and in the group phases of the second and third tournaments, the two-point rule was played; Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.

Tournament in Yekaterinburg

Seven teams took part in the tournament in Yekaterinburg, held in the Sports Palace of the Trade Unions : ZSK VVS Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Spartak Yekaterinburg, the Kazakh national team, DJuSSch-12 Yaroslavl, Metelitsa Chelyabinsk and Lokomotive Krasnoyarsk .

The top scorer of the tournament was Violetta Simonowa (ZSK WWS Moscow) with 15 goals. The best players were Irina Votinzew (goalkeeper, Spartak Yekaterinburg), Oxana Taikewitsch (defender, Kazakhstan) and Julija Perova (striker, Spartak Yekaterinburg).

Tournament in Chelyabinsk

Seven teams took part in the Chelyabinsk tournament, which was held in the Sports Palace of the Trade Unions : ZSK VVS Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Spartak Yekaterinburg, the Kazakh national team, DJuSSch-12 Yaroslavl, Metelitsa Chelyabinsk and Irtysh Omsk.
