The 1995/96 season was the first season of the Russian women's ice hockey championship ( Russian Чемпионат России по хоккею с шайбой среди женщин ), the top division in Russian women's ice hockey .

In 1994 the Russian National Olympic Committee decided to promote women's ice hockey in Russia in view of the 1998 Olympic Games and in 1995 founded the Russian women's ice hockey championship.

AO Luzhniki Moscow secured the first championship title ahead of Uralochka-Avto Yekaterinburg and Lokomotive Krasnoyarsk . The top scorer of the championship was Julia Perova from the master Luzhniki Moscow.

The first of the season of the Russian Women's Championship was played from September 20, 1995 to February 12, 1996 with six teams.

The tournament was held in the form of three tournaments, which took place in Moscow (September 20-25, 1995), Yekaterinburg (December 5-10, 1995) and Omsk (February 7-12, 1996), with five per team Games were played out.

Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
