Cesium thiosulfate (Cs 2 [S 2 O 3 ]) is a chemical compound of cesium and a thiosulfate anion .

Extraction and presentation

Cs 2 [S 2 O 3 ] · H 2 O is obtained from an aqueous solution of Ba [S 2 O 3 ] and Cs 2 [CO 3 ].

The barium carbonate is filtered off and the remaining cesium thiosulfate is crystallized out in the desiccator using a drying agent .

properties

The anhydrous cesium thiosulfate crystallizes monoclinically in the space group P 2 1 / c (space group no. 14) with the lattice parameters a = 646.94 (5), b = 1096.57 (8), c = 951.02 (7) pm and β = 96.025 (3) ° and four formula units per unit cell . Cesium thiosulfate also occurs as a monohydrate (Cs 2 [S 2 O 3 ] · H 2 O) and dihydrate (Cs 2 [S 2 O 3 ] · 2H 2 O). Template: room group / 14
