The Yokohama Arena ( Japanese 横 浜 ア リ ー ナ , Yokohama Arīna ) is a multi-purpose arena opened in 1989 in Yokohama , Japan .

The arena was built on the model of New York's Madison Square Garden and has a capacity of exactly 18,500 seats. The multifunctional arena offers space for 17,000 spectators for concerts. In 2011 during the Tōhoku earthquake , the arena served as an emergency shelter and contact point for those affected by the quake.

The main investors in the operating company of the same name are Kirin Holdings , the city of Yokohama and Seibu Tetsudō .
