Kōhoku-ku ( Japanese 港 北区 ) is one of 18 districts in the Japanese city of Yokohama .
geography
The district is located in the north of Yokohama and has four neighboring districts: Tsuzuki-ku in the west, Tsurumi-ku in the east, and Midori-ku and Kanagawa-ku in the south. In the north and northeast, Kōhoku-ku borders the Takatsu, Nakahara and Saiwai districts of the city of Kawasaki (Kanagawa) . The Kōhoku district has a total of 353,201 inhabitants, making it the most populous of all the districts of Japanese seirei shitei toshi (government-determined Japanese cities with more than 500,000 inhabitants). The 23 districts of Tokyo have a special position and are not counted among the districts in this sense.
The Tōkyū Toyoko Line and the Yokohama Line along are residential and commercial area. There are also green areas with public parks in Kōhoku-ku.
Although the name includes the character " 港 " which means port, the district has no port. The name only refers to the fact that the district is north ( 北 hoku ) of the port of Yokohama. In Kōhoku-ku there are two artificial lakes created for irrigation : Lake Kikuna and Lake Shinohara. In addition, three rivers flow through the district. The Tsurumi, which has its source in Machida and flows into Tokyo Bay in the Tsurumi district of Yokohama , is the largest of these and is one of the "1st order rivers" ( ikkyū kasen ) that the Ministry of Land and Transport considers particularly important .
education
In Kōhoku there are two campuses of Keiō University .
