The 2nd ice hockey world championships of the U18 women of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of the year 2009 in the age group of the under-eighteen year olds (U18). A total of 13 national teams took part in the two top division and division I tournaments between December 28, 2008 and January 10, 2009 .
The world champion became the team of the United States for the second time , which could defeat the arch-rivals from Canada with 3-2 after extra time in the final . The German team finished the tournament in sixth place in the top division, Switzerland had to start relegation to Division I due to the last place in the top division. Austria was fourth and penultimate in Division I.

The U18 world championship of the top division took place from 5th to 10th January 2009 in the German city of Füssen . The games were played in the arena of the Federal Center for Ice Hockey and Curling (3,691 seats) and the neighboring Hall I (1,354 seats).
Eight national teams took part, playing in two groups of four teams each. The United States secured the world title with a 3-2 win after extra time over Canada. It was the second title win for the Americans.

For the first time, a division I tournament was held among the juniors, after there had only been one qualifying tournament for the World Cup last year . This was held at the turn of the year 2008/09 in Chambéry , France . The games took place in the Patinoire de Chambéry Métropole with 1,200 seats. The winner of the tournament consisting of five participants rose to the A group, while the last placed in the A group was relegated to Division I.
