Olivier Jean (born March 15, 1984 in Lachenaie ) is a Canadian short tracker and Olympic champion .

Life

Jean, who started his sport at the age of five, started in January 2002 for the first time at the Junior World Championship in Chuncheon . Although he reached the semi-finals there in two individual races and won silver with the relay, he was only used in national races in the next few seasons. There he achieved two victories at the Canadian Winter Games in 2003 and a triumph at the Alta Valtellina Trophy in 2006. After these successes, the Canadian Association nominated him for the first time in October 2006 for the Short Track World Cup , where Jean immediately second over 500 meters and with the season became. In the next races he achieved further podium positions, including two World Cup victories over 500 meters and one with the team. With this he also won the silver medal at the 2007 World Cup and overall victory at the Team World Cup of the year. With these successes, he even placed himself in second place in the Canadian rankings at the end of the season.

The 2007-08 season was largely missed by Jean due to an injury. For this he started the Short Track World Cup 2008/09 with further podium positions and a victory on the short distance of 500 meters. In addition to his success in the short track, for which he received the Rising Star Award in 2007 , Jean also competes in inline skating . Here he also won the national title in 2006. Although he was able to celebrate many successes, especially over 500 meters, the long distance 1500 meters is his favorite route.

In August 2013, the American runner Simon Cho was banned from the International Skating Union for two years because he sabotaged Jeans during the World Short Track Speed ​​Skating Team Championships 2011 in Warsaw.
