Wiktor Ahn ( Russian Виктор Ан , English transcription Viktor Ahn , formerly Ahn Hyun-soo , born November 23, 1985 in Seoul ) is a Russian - South Korean short track runner who won three Olympic gold medals in 2006 for his country of birth South Korea and in 2014 for Russia won.

Career

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he won gold medals on the 1500 meter and 1000 meter routes. On the thousand meter distance, he improved the Olympic record to 1: 26.739. Ahn Hyun-soo was also part of the South Korean 5000 meter relay that won gold at the 2006 Winter Olympics. With three gold medals and one bronze medal, Ahn was the most successful participant in the 2006 Winter Olympics. From 2003 to 2007 he was five-time overall world champion.

Change to Russia

Before the 2010 Olympics, Ahn was seriously injured and was unable to take part in the games. His association did not want to nominate him afterwards, but he insisted on further assignments, so that he finally decided to start for another country. He has been a Russian citizen since 2011.

In 2014 he won gold over 1000 meters, over 500 meters and in the 5000 meter relay with the Russian team at the Olympic Games . It was the first gold medals in the short track for Russia. He also won the bronze medal over 1500 meters. With a total of six gold medals, Ahn is by far the most successful short tracker at the Olympic Games.

Doping and suspension

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided in early 2018 that he would be banned from the 2018 Winter Games. The suspension was triggered by the McLaren report on doping and its concealment in Russia. Ahn's lawsuit before the International Court of Sports was unsuccessful.
