Jonathan Guilmette

Jonathan Guilmette (born August 18, 1978 in Montréal , Québec ) is a Canadian short tracker .

Jonathan Guilmette started skating at the age of 6. He lives and trains in his native Montréal. He runs for Club Pointe-aux-Trembles and is trained by Olympic champion Derrick Campbell . Before he was promoted to Canada's national short track team in 1997, he started quite successfully in junior competitions, including becoming world champion in the 1,500 meter distance in 1995 and second in 500 meters in the junior world championships in 1997. He made his debut in the World Cup in 1999. In the same year he became Canadian champion for the first time. He was able to repeat this success in 2001 and 2004. At world championships he was able to win various medals, including gold with the relay in 2006 or 2004 a silver medal in the individual over 1500 meters. In 2004, he was named Canada's Male Runner of the Year. Over the 3000 meter distance, Jonathan holds the Canadian record.

At the 1998 Olympic Games he was only a substitute. Active at the Olympics for the first time, he took part in the 2002 Games. With the relay the Canadians got gold and over 500 meters Jonathan won the silver medal. At the 2006 Games in Turin , his third Olympic medal came in second place in the relay.
