Janyk, whose older sister Britt Janyk also started in the World Cup, was a slalom runner . In his first full 2004/05 season, he achieved several top 15 results. His best result so far is the second place in the slalom of Beaver Creek in December 2006. He finished the 2006/07 season in seventh position in the Slalom World Cup.
After two disappointing years with starting numbers over 60, he got going again in the 2008/2009 season. He crowned his comeback with the bronze medal in slalom at the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère . In the 2009/10 season Janyk reached ninth place in the Slalom World Cup with six top 10 places. He finished 13th in the slalom at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , and 26th in the super combination. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he had no result after a failure in the slalom. In the World Cup he finished in the top five four times in the winter of 2010/11 , while he was only twice in the top ten in the 2011/12 season .
In the following two winters, 2012/13 and 2013/14, a 14th place remained his best World Cup result. Janyk contested his last World Cup race on March 9, 2014 in Kranjska Gora ; while he reached 15th place in the slalom.
