biography

Britt Janyk celebrated her first major successes in the Nor-Am Cup . In the 1999/2000 season she won the overall classification, from 1998/99 to 2000/01 she was second in the giant slalom classification three times in a row and also second in the Super-G classification in 1999/2000. In the 2001/02 season she won the giant slalom in the European Cup . In October 1999 Janyk competed in her first race in the World Cup . Initially she competed in downhill , super-G and giant slalom , but was not very successful. The only positive exception was eighth place in the giant slalom on Semmering in December 2000 . From the 2001/02 season she started, with a few exceptions, only in the disciplines of giant slalom and slalom . In the 2002/03 season she was regularly in the points and also managed some placements in the top 10. But then things didn't go as well for her and so she did n't qualify for a second round in 2005/06 .

From the 2006/07 season onwards , Janyk mainly competed in the downhill and Super-G. At the Alpine World Ski Championships 2007 in Åre , she was fourth in the Super-G at the same time as Nicole Hosp and only missed a medal by six hundredths of a second. On December 1, 2007 she was third on the Lake Louise Downhill for the first time on the podium in a World Cup race and a week later she celebrated her first and only World Cup victory in the Downhill in Aspen . In the further course of the 2007/08 season , she placed regularly in the top 10, which she reached third place in the Downhill World Cup. She was unable to match this in the next few years, she only achieved a few top 10 results. In 2010, Janyk took part in the Winter Olympics for the first time , having previously started at five World Championships. At her Olympic premiere she achieved sixth place in the downhill as well as 17th place in the Super-G and 25th place in the giant slalom.

Britt Janyk was a total of 15 times Canadian champion in all disciplines. She is an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right To Play . On May 17, 2011, she announced her retirement from ski racing.
