Jessica Gregg (born March 16, 1988 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian short tracker .
Gregg started short track sport at the age of five. Her first international race was the Junior World Championship in 2005, in which she immediately won two bronze medals, one over 500 meters and one in the relay. She was also fifth overall. In the next year she was able to defend the 500 m bronze medal, only with the relay she missed the podium in fourth. She also performed very successfully at the Canadian Junior Championships in 2006, where she won two courses and in the overall standings, while she missed a medal at the senior championship in her country. At the Alta Valtellina Trophy of the same year she won bronze over 1000 meters.
In the 2006/07 season , Gregg was nominated for the short track World Cup for the first time , where she reached the podium in third place in her first 500 m World Cup race and also achieved third place right away with the relay. At her second World Cup, which, like her first, took place in her home country, she also achieved her first World Cup victory with the relay. Since she only contested five of eight possible World Cups, she only came thirteenth in the 500 m World Cup despite the discarded results, and with the relay she only placed sixth in the overall World Cup. For this she successfully took part in the Canadian Championships in 2007, where she won the silver medal over 500 meters. In the Canadian short track ranking at the end of the season, she placed seventh after positions 14 and 12 in previous years.
The 2007/08 season began Gregg with further podium finishes in the World Cup, but only with the relay, in the individual she missed one, although she achieved a fourth and a fifth place over 500 meters. After she finished ninth overall in the World Cup over this route and won the silver medal in the relay at the 2008 World Cup , she was fifth in the national ranking at the end of the season. In the Short Track World Cup 2008/09 Gregg started with further podium placements, third in the 500 m and in the relay. Gregg achieved bronze over 500 m and with the relay at the World Championships in Vienna . The following year she reached the final of the 500 m at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , but narrowly missed the bronze medal and finished fourth. She also won bronze in the relay at the World Championships in Sofia . She was successful at the team world championship in Bormio and won silver with her colleagues.
In addition to her specialist distance of 500 m, Gregg also competed in the World Cup on other routes. The longer the race lasted, the worse their placements got. While she even came close to the podium over 1000 m as fifth, over 1500 m she only came 21st as the best World Cup result in the statistics. She only ran the 3000 m at a Canadian Championship, where she placed 26th.
At the 2014 World Championships in Montreal , she won silver with the relay.
Gregg's parents also enjoyed winter sports, her mother Katherine competed in the Winter Olympics as a speed skater , and her father Randy as an ice hockey player . Her brother also does speed skating in the Canadian junior team.
