The village church is a Protestant church building in the Cottbus district of Groß Gaglow .

history

The church was built in 1891 in place of a small half-timbered church from 1688 that was demolished due to dilapidation . During the Second World War , a shell hit the building in 1945 and the damage was not repaired until 1950. Numerous construction works have taken place since 1986. In 1990 the tower hood was given a new roof . A general renovation took place between 2004 and 2005. The roof, the roof structure , the suspended wooden false ceiling and the galleries were renovated. In addition, the entire interior was restored, the organ and fittings were cleaned and parts of the original painting were exposed.

Building description

The walls of the neo-Romanesque church are structured by pillars and lightly decorated with friezes and cornices . Two crosses cut into the masonry flank the large arched window in the apse . The more ornate tower has a rhombic roof , gargoyles and round windows in the triangular gables . Inside there is a freestanding pulpit carved from wood . The restored, circumferential tape bears the inscription: "Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth and a pleasure to men". In cross vault one day the sky is shown. The church interior is also characterized by the horseshoe gallery and the open roof structure, the rafters and beams of which are visible. The Heyde family's wooden epitaph is also in the church . The building is a listed building .
