The Luther Church is a Protestant church building in the Brandenburg city ​​of Cottbus . The associated parish belongs to the Cottbus parish of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .

history

The church was built in 1911 in response to the large increase in population caused by industrialization . The church was badly damaged in the air raids on Cottbus in February 1945 and only partially restored later.

Building description

The church is a hall church built in Art Nouveau style with an elongated, cuboid apse in the south, a gable roof and a neo-baroque relief main portal on the north side, to which the transversely oval west tower is attached asymmetrically. Above the portal, the opening lines of the first and fourth stanzas of A strong castle is our God can be read under the Luther rose in a window . There are five arched windows on the east side . The parish hall adjoins it in the west and south. The building underwent an interior renovation from September 2018 to August 2019. It is a listed building.
