Gordon Dickson

Gordon Dickson ( Gordon Elford "Gord" Dickson ; born January 2, 1932 in Calgary , † January 19, 2015 ) was a Canadian long-distance runner who specialized in the marathon .

In 1955 he was Canadian champion in 2:31:51 h. In 1956 he was seventh in the Boston Marathon , and in 1957 he won again at the Canadian Championship.

The following year, he defended his national championship title in 2:21:51 h and was fifth in 2:28:43 h at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in 1958 .

In 1959 he was third in Boston and Canadian marathon champion. At the Pan American Games in Chicago he won bronze in the marathon and was fifth in the 10,000 m .

With his fourth national title in a row, he qualified for the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, where he finished 55th in 2:38:46 h. At the Košice marathon he was sixth.

In 1962 he was again Canadian marathon champion and came in twelfth place at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth . In 1964 he won his sixth national marathon title.

In 1958 he was Canadian champion over six miles , 1956, 1958 and 1959 in cross country . He won the Around the Bay Road Race five times (1956-1959, 1964).
