In 2009 he won the Asian Championships with a performance of 421 kg (190-231) and at the Junior World Championships in Bucharest with 423 kg (195-228).

A year later, Behdad Salimikordasiabi took part in his first senior world championships in Antalya. In the snatch he was defeated by Yevgeny Tschigischew , from Russia, with 208 kg , who reached 210 kg after he failed in the last attempt at 211 kg. Since Tschigischew injured himself in the first push attempt, Salimikordasiabi had already pulled away from the rest of the field after his valid initial attempt of 241 kg with 449 kg in a duel. Matthias Steiner , Germany, only managed to hit the Iranian, who lifted 245 kg in the second attempt, with 246 kg, because he failed in the last attempt at 247 kg.

In the same year Behdad Salimikordasiabi started at the Asian Games in Guanguhou, where he won with 440 kg (205-235) in front of Jeon Sang-Guen from South Korea, 428 kg and his compatriot Sajjad Anoushiravani Hamlabad, 427 kg, in a superior manner.

In November 2011, Behdad Salimikordasiabi beat Hossein Rezazadeh's existing world record by one kilogram at the World Championships in Paris with 214 kg in the snatch . In pushing he managed 245 kg and achieved 459.0 kg (214–245) in a duel.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he won the gold medal with a total of 455 kg (208-247).

At the 2013 World Cup, he was not used because of differences with the Iranian Weightlifting Association.

After settling these differences, Behdad Salimikordasiabi was able to start again in 2014. He achieved 464 kg (210-254) in a duel in the Iranian Weightlifting League and was already back at the performance level of 2011 and 2012. In September 2014, he won the Asian Games in Incheon / South Korea. His performance there was 465 kg (210-255). He weighed 170.87 kg at this event and clearly relegated Ai Yunan, China, 425 kg (190-235) and Chen Shi-chien, Taipei, 424 kg (191-133) to their places. At the 2014 World Cup in Almaty, he met Ruslan Albegow from Russia, who won the 2013 title. Behdad Salimikordasiabi could not quite repeat his performances from the Asian Games in Incheon in Almaty. He reached 206 kg in the snatch and 251 kg in the push, for a total of 457 kg in a duel. Ruslan Albegow achieved 462 kg (210-252) in a duel, winning ahead of Behdad Salimikordasiabi.

Behdad Salimikordasiabi did not start at the 2015 World Cup. But he took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In the tear he was in good shape and achieved 216 kg, which put him one kilo ahead of the new star lifter Lascha Talachadze from Georgia. In the push he failed in the first attempt of his initial load of 245 kg with 1 to 2 referee votes. The second attempt was initially given unanimously by the judges and only immediately invalidated by decision of the jury due to the not stretched arm. On the third attempt he did not bring the weight up and thus he did not perform in a duel.

At the 2017 World Championships in Anaheim he met Lascha Talachadze again and had no chance against him, who achieved the new world record of 477 kg (220-257) in a duel, with 453 kg (211-242). In a duel he even had to let his compatriot Saeid Alihosseini, who came to 454 kg (203-251), pull past him.
