Lascha Talachadze ( Georgian ლაშა ტალახაძე ; English Lasha Talakhadze ; born October 2, 1993 in Satschchere ) is a Georgian weightlifter . He became world champion in super heavyweight duel and snatch in 2015 , European champion in 2016 and won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics that same year, while setting a new Olympic and world record. Talachadze surpassed his own world record in 2017 as world champion and became European champion again in the same year.

Career

Lascha Talachadze began lifting weights as a teenager. In 2010 he started for the first time at an international championship, the Junior European Championship (U 18) in Valencia. He won there in the super heavyweight division with a duel of 345 kg (158-187). In September 2011 he was again junior European champion in super heavyweight in Bucharest, where he increased in a duel to 402 kg (185-217). In 2011 it was also used at the Seniors World Championships in Paris, where it came in 20th place with 387 kg (180-207) in the super heavyweight division.

At the European Junior Championships 2012 (U 20) in Eilat / Israel he came in the super heavyweight to 412 kg (190-222). With this performance he took 3rd place behind Magomed Abujew from Russia and Gor Minasjan from Armenia. In May 2013 he won the Junior World Championship (U 20) in Lima in super heavyweight with 411 kg (190-221) in a duel, where he waited with a body weight of 156.15 kg, ahead of Gor Minasjan, who was 403 kg came.

At the European Junior Championships (U 20) 2013 in Tallinn, he reached 415 kg (190–225) in a duel. At this championship, however, he was doped with stanozolol . Because of this, he was banned by the World Weightlifting Federation (IMF) from October 17, 2013 to October 17, 2015.

After the two-year competition ban, he competed at the World Championships in Houston in November 2015. He achieved there in the super heavyweight duel 454 kg (207-247) retrospectively the first place after Alexei Vladimirovich Lowchev was tested positive in a doping test.

At the 2016 European Weightlifting Championships in Forde, Talachadze won a duel with 463 kg and in the individual disciplines snatch with 212 kg and jerk with 253 kg.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio den Janeiro, he was a high favorite and justified this position by winning the gold medal. He achieved a new world record with a total of 473 kg (215-258).

In 2017 he was again European super heavyweight champion in Split. It reached him in the duel 467 kg (217-250) to victory in the duel and in the two individual disciplines. He was in even better shape at this year's World Cup in Anaheim. He won there with the world record load of 477 kg (220-257) ahead of the Iranians Said Alihoseini, 454 kg and Behdad Salimikordasiabi, 453 kg.

In 2018 he continued his winning streak. He first won the European Championships, but contented himself there with a duel with 457 kg (210-247). At the World Championships in Ashgabat in November 2018, he was again world champion in super heavyweight, which now starts at 109 kg body weight after a weight class reform. His duel performance was 474 kg (217-257). Due to the weight class reform, these achievements are new world records.
