Mohammad Bagheri Motamed ( Persian محمد باقری معتمد; * January 24, 1986 in Tehran ) is an Iranian Taekwondoin . It starts in the weight class up to 68 kilograms.

Motamed was accepted into the national team at the age of 15 and has been training in his hometown under national coach Reza Mehmandust ever since. In his first international title fights, the Asian Championship in Amman in 2002 , Motamed won the bronze medal in the class up to 54 kilograms straight away, two years later he won silver in the class up to 58 kilograms in Seongnam . In the following years he was particularly successful at the Universiade , winning silver in Izmir in 2005 and gold in Bangkok in 2007 . Motamed won the Asian championship for the first time in the class up to 67 kilograms at the 2008 Asian Championships in Henan .

Since 2009 he has started in his current weight class up to 68 kilograms. At the 2009 World Cup in Copenhagen , Motamed achieved the ultimate breakthrough in the international top. He reached the final and became world champion for the first time after beating Idulio Islas . In 2010 Motamed successfully defended his Asian title in Astana . In Guangzhou he also won the gold medal at the Asian Games . At the 2011 World Cup in Gyeongju , he reached the final again and won another World Cup medal after losing to Servet Tazegül with silver. At the international Olympic qualification tournament in Baku in mid-2011 , he reached the final in the class up to 68 kilograms and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . There Motamed advanced to the final, where he was defeated by the Turkish Servet Tazegül with six to five points.
