Finn Reske-Nielsen

Finn Reske-Nielsen (born January 1950 ) is a Danish diplomat at the United Nations .

Life

Reske-Nielsen holds a post-graduate degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Aarhus University . Here he was previously an assistant professor for these two areas.

Reske-Nielsen worked for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as Deputy Representative in Port Moresby ( Papua New Guinea ) and Assistant Resident Representative in Windhoek ( Namibia ). He also worked for the UNHCR in Switzerland and Zambia and at the UN Secretariat in New York in the Department of Political Affairs.

From 1999 to 2002 Reske-Nielsen was UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in East Timor at UNTAET and from 2002 to 2004 in the same function in Laos .

From August 2006 Reske-Nielsen was Deputy UN Special Envoy for East Timor and Deputy Head of UNMIT . In June 2012 he took over the post of his boss Ameerah Haq . He led the mission to its scheduled end on December 31, 2012. Reske-Nielsen was also UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative and UN Humanitarian Coordinator until 2010.

In 2012 Reske-Nielsen received the medal of the Ordem de Timor-Leste from East Timor’s President José Ramos-Horta .

Finn Reske-Nielsen is married and has two grown children.
