Ameerah Haq
Ameerah Haq is a diplomat from Bangladesh . She is single.
Career
Haq received a Masters in Society Organization and Planning from Columbia University and in Business Administration from New York University. Haq received a Bachelor of Arts from Western College in Oxford, Ohio .
In 1976 she started as a Junior Professional Officer in Jakarta ( Indonesia ). In 1978 she moved to Afghanistan as Assistant Resident Representative . From 1980 to 1990, Haq worked in the regional office for Asia and the Pacific at UNDP's headquarters in New York in various positions, such as coordinating aid projects and being desk officer for Thailand , Myanmar and Bhutan . From 1985 to 1987 she also worked for the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). From 1991 to 1994 Haq was UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Laos and from 1994 to 1997 with the same duties in Malaysia .
Haq was the UN Secretary-General's special envoy in Afghanistan with responsibility for reconstruction. She was also the UNDP Resident Representative , Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan (2004 to 2007).
She was previously Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director of the Bureau of Crisis Prevention and Reconstruction at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in New York.
From September 2008 Haq was Deputy UN Special Envoy for Sudan , United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan.
On December 4, 2009 she was appointed UN Special Envoy for East Timor and Head of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste ( UNMIT ). She succeeded the Indian Atul Khare on this post. In January 2010, Haq became the first woman to take office in East Timor and held it until June 8, 2012. Her successor was the Dane Finn Reske-Nielsen .
In 2014, Ameerah Haq resigned as Under-Secretary-General of the UN. In this office she was responsible for logistics and support for all UN peace missions.
Awards
In 2012, Haq received the medal of the Ordem de Timor-Leste from East Timor's President José Ramos-Horta .
