Ordem de Timor-Leste
The Ordem de Timor-Leste ( German order of East Timor ) is the highest order of East Timor .
background
With it, the state recognizes the achievements of citizens and foreigners in their professional or social life. It also honors heroic and selfless behavior that made a significant contribution to East Timor , its people or humanity. Presidents of East Timor are allowed to wear the Grand Collar des Ordem de Timor-Leste after leaving office.
The medal is bestowed by the President. The National Parliament of East Timor and the Council of Ministers can submit proposals for the award. If members of the national or foreign armed forces are honored with the medal, the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Defense Forces of East Timor must be consulted beforehand. When honoring police forces, the relevant minister and the head of the East Timorese National Police must also be consulted in advance. The Foreign Minister must be involved if foreigners are to be honored.
The medals are manufactured by the Singapore company Eng Leong Medallic Industries (ELM).
In 2015, 28 people representing their groups were awarded the medal. Leading resistance fighters had hidden with them. The recipients are responsible for the safekeeping of the medal and are not allowed to use it as an individual. Medal bearers are all members of the group who participated in keeping the fighters in hiding.
