Aliança da Conceição de Araújo (born May 28, 1952 in Aileu , Portuguese Timor ) fighting name Hali , is a former East Timorese independence activist. She is party leader of the Partido Timorense Democrático (PTD).

Life

Although Araújo's husband was a senior police officer in the Indonesian Police in occupied East Timor, Aliança Araújo has been a supporter of the resistance since 1990. Since February 9, 1990, she has repeatedly hid the FALINTIL leader Xanana Gusmão from the occupiers in a bunker behind her house in Dili . When Gusmão was discovered and arrested there on November 20, 1992, the entire Araújo family was also sent to prison. Aliança was tortured. She took sole responsibility for hiding the resistance fighter, thereby relieving her husband.

After the Indonesians left, Araújo sat for the Partido Nasionalista Timorense (PNT) in the National Consultative Council ( NCC), in the National Council (NC) during the United Nations interim administration for East Timor and in the National Parliament of East Timor between 2001 and 2007. Her brother Abílio Araújo is the head of the PNT, Aliança was the party's vice-president. The second brother Afonso Redentor Araújo composed the national anthem of East Timor . He was captured and executed by the Indonesians in 1979.

In 2008 Aliança de Araújo founded the PTD.

In 2016 Araújo received the Medal of the Ordem de Timor-Leste .
