The East Timor Trading Ltd. ( ETT ) is a company in East Timor . It is based in Dili 's Comoro district . The Australian owner Sakib Awan , who operated from Darwin in 1992 , has been active in the Southeast Asian country since 2002. East Timor gained independence that year. Awan's daughter Zeenat Awan Aluwihare and son-in-law Sam Aluwihare also hold leading positions in the company.
The group of companies has specialized primarily in the sale of “fast moving consumer goods”, for which it has acquired franchising licenses from around 30 corporations .
The company owns the duty-free shops at Dili Airport . It also operates the 31-room Discovery Inn and the Diya Restaurant and the Discovery Hotel. With at least four Burger King branches in Dili, ETT also operates the only international fast food chain in the country to date. In September 2015, the fourth Burger King opened the first drive-in store in East Timor. More shops of the ETT group Cheers Bottle & Smoke Shop, Cafe Chino, IL Gelato Ice Creamery, Gloria Jeans Coffees (an Australian café chain) and Beard Papa, a Japanese chain store for cream puffs . Several stores are located in East Timor's first shopping mall, the Timor Plaza .
ETT is a sponsor of the Dili marathon .
Sakib Awan received the Ordem de Timor-Leste for his services in 2012 .
