The Dili Marathon is an international running competition in East Timor's capital Dili . It took place for the first time on June 20, 2010. The Dili Marathon goes back to the initiative of the President of East Timor, José Ramos-Horta .

2010

In 2010, the marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.097 km), 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer “Fun Run” were run as routes ; In addition, a wheelchair competition was held over 5 kilometers. The start and finish was at the government palace in the center of the city. For the marathon route, a 21.1 km lap has to be run twice, the Fun Run route consists of a 5.1 km lap. The marathon route rises from m to an altitude of 42  m . The climatic conditions are uncomfortable. In June the average temperature is between 24 and 31 ° C with a humidity of 68%. Therefore, the race started at 6:30 a.m.

A total of 713 athletes reached the finish line on all routes (185 of them women), specifically:

  • Marathon: 79 (including 16 women)
  • Half marathon: 159 (including 43 women)
  • 10-kilometer run: 101 (including 12 women)
  • 5-kilometer run: 367 (including 114 women)
  • 5-kilometer wheelchair race: 7

In the men's marathon, the Kenyan Philemon Rotich won the marathon with 2:34:57 hours. The East Timorese Augusto Ramos Soares and Zeferino Guterres Magalhaes finished second (2:26:00 hours) and third (2:36:28 hours), one minute behind Hours.).

In the women's marathon, Australian Lucie Hardiman won the marathon with 3:03:32 hours. Ten minutes later, Juventina Napoleão from Lospalos from East Timor (3:13:05 hours) arrived, followed by her compatriot Agueda Amaral (3:22:26 Hours), which has already participated in the Olympic Games twice.

2011

On June 18, 2011, the second Dili marathon took place as a peace run ( tetum Halai Ba Dame ). The highest patron was Prince Albert II.

Routes and number of participants:

  • Marathon: 41 participants finished the route, 10 of them women.
  • Half marathon: 160 participants finished the route, 40 of them women.
  • 7 kilometer run

The organizers spoke of around 5000 participants in the peace run. Many school children ran the 7-kilometer route.

The marathon was won by the Kenyan Sammy Kiptoo Kurgat (2:20:06 hours) out of 160 participants who crossed the finish line . The East Timorese Augusto Ramos Soares came second again (2:31:54 hours). The best woman in 8th place was Juventina Napoleão (3: 08.28 hours), who was able to improve on second place from the previous year. Agueda Amaral was only fourth.

Ribeiro Pinto de Charbaliu from East Timor was first in the half marathon (1:13:54 hours). The best woman was the East Timoresin Marquita dos Santos (1:29:24 hours) in the youth group (16 and 17 years ).

2012

The 2012 Dili Marathon took place on May 12th, a week before the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of East Timor’s independence. Of the 8,052 runners, some participants from Australia were unable to arrive on time because a storm prevented them from arriving.

6,208 participants ran the five-kilometer route, mostly students from local schools. There were also eight participants in the five-kilometer wheelchair race. 1,583 runners started the ten-kilometer race.

The East Timorese Marquita dos Santos won the marathon with 3:19:17 hours for women and Calisto da Costa for men with 2:46:42 hours for men. The prize money was $ 5,000 each. The winner of the half marathon was the Japanese Koki Kawuchi in 1:11:58 hours for the men and the East Timorese Juventina Napoleão in 1:30:51 hours for the women.

2013

The 2013 Dili Marathon took place on June 22nd.
