Edson Marinho Duarte Monteiro

Edson Marinho Duarte Monteiro (born November 15, 1947 in São José de Ubá , Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ) is a Brazilian diplomat. He has the rank of Ministro de Primeira Classe da Carreira de Diplomata do Ministério das Relações Exteriores .

Career

Monteiro is the son of Manuel Duarte Monteiro and Laubélia Marinho Belga Monteiro.

In 1973 Monteiro graduated from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro with a degree in social sciences . In the same year he completed the Curso Preparatório à Carreira Diplomática (CPCD) and in 1974 became the third secretary in the Foreign Service. His first post was an assistant in the economics department. In 1975 he moved to the Transport and Communication Department and in 1976 he came to the Embassy in Manila ( Philippines ). In 1978 Monteiro returned to Brazil as an assistant in the Asia and Oceania department. In the same year he was promoted to second secretary. In 1980, Monteiro became an assistant consul at the Consulate General in Los Angeles . At the University of Southern Californiahe received a Masters in Public Administration in the same year. In 1982 Monteiro was promoted to first secretary. From 1983 he was at the Embassy in Canberra and from 1987 in the Department of Operations for Economic Development as an assistant. In 1988, Monteiro became Deputy Head of the Trade Fairs and Tourism Department and in 1989 Diplomatic Council. In 1990 he became the head of the Borders Department and in 1991 the Head of the Central and North America Department.

In 1992, Monteiro moved to the embassy in Brussels as a councilor . In 1996 he became a consultant in the economic development department and in 1997 he was promoted to Ministro de Segunda Classe . In 1998, Monteiro went to the Embassy in Beijing as Ministerial Counselor . In 2004 he moved to the Asia and Oceania department as head and in 2006 to the Agência Brasileira de Cooperação as general coordinator for cooperation with developing countries. In 2007 Monteiro was promoted to Ministro de Primeira Classe.

On October 25, 2007, Monteiro was appointed the new Brazilian ambassador to East Timor by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva . The Federal Senate was confirmed on December 5, 2007. Monteiro held the office until 2013. He was then Ambassador to Armenia from 2013 to 2017.
