José Amir da Costa Dornelles

José Amir da Costa Dornelles (born August 24, 1953 in Porto Alegre , Rio Grande do Sul Brazil ) is a Brazilian diplomat. He has the rank of Ministro de Segunda Classe da Carreira de Diplomata do Ministério das Relações Exteriores .

Career

Dornelles is the son of Amir Dauzacker Dornelles and Manoela da Costa Dornelles.

Dornelles has worked in the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1976. From 1977 he worked in the Africa II department , from 1978 to 1979 he was acting chargé d'affaires at the embassy in Algiers and then ceremonial assistant. In 1982 Dornelles became second secretary at the embassy in Vienna , in 1984 second secretary at the representation at the international organizations in Vienna and in 1986 only second, then first secretary at the embassy in Nairobi ( Kenya ). From 1989 he worked as an assistant in the Economic Policy Department, from 1991 in the Agriculture and Basic Products Department and from 1992 in the Secretariat for Relations of the National Congress . From 1993 Dornelles was at the Permanent Representation of Brazil to the European Community as advisor and first secretary, from 1997 at the embassy in Caracas ( Venezuela ) as advisor and in 2001 in the Central and North America department as head. In 2003 Dornelles became Head of the United States and Canada Department , in 2004 Ministerial Advisor to the Permanent Mission to the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) and Mercosur and in 2006 Ministerial Advisor to the Embassy in Montevideo ( Uruguay ). Dornelles then became ceremonies advisor in 2008 and sub-boss in 2009. After all, from 2011 he was Head of Cabinet of the General Sub-Secretariat for Politics.

On April 9, 2013, Dornelles was appointed the new Brazilian ambassador to East Timor by President Dilma Rousseff . The Federal Senate was confirmed on March 19, 2013. Dornelles held the office until 2016.
