Latin American Integration Association

The Latin American Integration Association ( Spanish Asociación Latinoamericana de Integración , Portuguese Associação Latino-Americana de Integração , ALADI) is an organization of several Latin American countries for economic cooperation and creation of a common market. The organization is based in Montevideo in the Barrio Palermo there on Calle Cebollatí 1461 .

history

The organization was founded in 1980 and through the Treaty of Montevideo of 1980 , which came into force on March 18, 1981, ALADI became the legal successor to the Latin American Free Trade Area (ALALC or LAFTA) established with the Treaty of Montevideo on February 18, 1960 .

The organization has 13 member states.

On August 11, 2011, in the course of the 16th meeting of the Council of Ministers, Nicaragua's accession was accepted in principle and on March 21, 2012 it was announced as the 14th member state.
