Antonio José Maria de Souza e Silva

Antônio José Maria de Souza e Silva (born August 16, 1950 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ) is a Brazilian diplomat. He has the rank of Ministro de Primeira Classe da Carreira de Diplomata do Ministério das Relações Exteriores .

Career

Souza e Silva is the son of Celso Antonio de Souza e Silva and Maria Alice de Azevedo Teixeira de Souza e Silva.

Until 1973 Souza e Silva studied law and social sciences at the Faculty of Law Cândido Mendes in Rio de Janeiro. In 1976 he became a member of the Foreign Service as third secretary. He started working as an assistant in the Operations Department for Business Development Operations. In 1979 he was promoted to second secretary and went to the Consulate General in New York . In 1982 Souza e Silva moved to the embassy in Guatemala as head of business and in the same year to the embassy in Asunción ( Paraguay ), where he was promoted to first secretary in 1984. In 1987 Souza e Silva became deputy head of the financial policy department and in 1988 responsible for relations at the embassy in Islamabad ( Pakistan ). In 1989 he was promoted to the diplomatic council and in 1993 he moved to the embassy in Prague . In 1987 Souza e Silva Chrf became the European Department and in the same year Deputy Director General of the Europe Department. In 2000, he became a consultant in the business development department. As head of the delegation, Souza e Silva represented Brazil in 2003 in Paris at the 134th meeting of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and in 2004 became head of the Fairs and Tourism Department. Souza e Silva was also the head of the delegation at the 135th meeting of the BIE in 2004. In the same year he was promoted to the Ministro de Segunda Classe .

On August 25, 2004 Souza e Silva was appointed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as the new Brazilian ambassador to East Timor . The Federal Senate was confirmed on October 6, 2004. Souza e Silva held the office until 2007. From 2008 to 2012 Souza e Silva was then ambassador to Maputo ( Mozambique ) and from 2016 to 2019 ambassador to Myanmar .
