Adelino Clemente Gomes (born August 10, 1944 in Marrazes , Portugal ) is a Portuguese journalist and author.

Career

Gomes studied law and philosophy at the University of Lisbon for a few semesters. In 1966 he attended a journalism course of the Portuguese newspaper Diário Popular , in 1968 the course of the National Association of Journalists and in 1979 a course in radio journalism. He himself taught at the School of Social Media (1975–1981), the School of Journalism in Porto (1986) and the Autonomous University of Lisbon (1992–2002).

From 1966 to 1989 Gomes worked at Rádio Clube Português . From June to October 1974 he was the elected editor-in-chief. He also worked for Renaissance Radio (1971/1972), the Portuguese section of Deutsche Welle and Radiodifusão Portuguesa RDP (here as Director for Information from December 1995 to July 1997). At RDP, Gomes hosted the morning program in the early 1980s. He was also in 1975/1976 at the newsroom of Rádio e Televisão de Portugal RTP. Here he worked as a correspondent in Angola at the beginning of the civil war and in Portuguese Timor after the end of the civil war there in 1975 . Gomes arrived in Portuguese Timor on October 8, 1975. His passport shows a stamp from FRETILIN , who had taken power in the colony. The passport is now in the Archive & Museum of the Timorese Resistance in Dili . Gomes also reported on the Indonesian incursions in the border area. In 1982 Gomes visited East Timor, which was now occupied by Indonesia, and reported, among other things, about the people interned on the small island of Atauro . After his radio days he was editor-in-chief at Público and from 1998 to 2000 its deputy director.

Gomes was coordinator of II. (1986) and member of the writing committee of III. Congress of Portuguese Journalists (1998).

Gomes is married and has two children.

Since June 10, 1991 Gomes has been the holder of the Order of the Infante Dom Henrique (Commander). In 2015, Gomes received the Medal des Ordem de Timor-Leste from East Timor's President Taur Matan Ruak . The award ceremony took place on May 20, 2015, on the 13th Independence Day of East Timor .
