Marrazes is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Leiria . It has 3,066 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

history

The community emerged in the mid-19th century, as part of the spin-off from the earlier, extensive community of Santiago do Arrabalde da Ponte (also São Tiago do Arrabalde ).

Culture and sights

Among the numerous monuments in the municipality are some mansions , fountains, the train station, the Bairro Sá Carneiro apartment block (social housing from 1969), the Armazém Regulador n.º 4 (also Armazém Carlos Mata ) warehouses built in 1942 , and various sacred buildings , including the single-aisled parish church Igreja Paroquial de Marrazes (also Igreja de São Tiago ) from the 19th century.

With the Museu Escolar , which opened in 2001 and has been built since 1993, a nationally important school museum is open to visitors.

The municipality has some commercial areas where industry and administration have settled, such as the administration of the meat manufacturer Lusiaves , or the Intermarché retail complex (supermarket, hardware store, etc.), in addition to various other retail and industrial companies.
