Faustino da Costa (born June 18, 1974 in Maubara , Portuguese Timor ) is an East Timorese police officer. Since 2019 he has been the General Commander of the East Timorese National Police (PNTL).

Career

From 1982 to 1989 he graduated from the SDK St. Paulus VI Maubara primary school , then the SMP N Maubara pre-secondary school until 1991 and the SMA N 1 Dili secondary school until 1994 . In 1996 Costa received his Diploma II at the Politeknik Negeri Dili .

In 2000 he joined the newly founded PNTL. He received training in police management from the UN Police (UNpol). In February / March 2011 he attended a management course at the Sentru Formasaun Polísia in Comoro, East Timor . Costa completed courses in Police Dizplin there from May to June 2002. A course for community commanders followed in February and March 2003 at the Makta Cheras in Malaysia and then a course at the PULAPOL inspector school in Kuala Lumpur in October to November 2004.

Costa took an English course at Flinders University, Australia from June to August 2008 and a course in police science at the FBI Academy in the United States from September 2008 to December 2008. This was followed by courses in police and conflict management at IPDC in Sweden from February to March 2010. From September to October 2011, Costa attended a course on policing in Asia at the Royal Melbourne Institute Technology Hanoi in Vietnam . At the beginning of 2013 Costa attended an audit course in Jakarta .

From 2003 to 2004, Costa was Police Commander of Liquiçá and from December 2005 to June 2007, Deputy Director of the PNTL Human Resources Department. From December 2009 to July 2010, he returned to Liquiçá as a police commander, before heading up the police legal department from 2010 to 2011. From April 2011 Costa was police commander of Baucau and on November 18, 2013 he was appointed chief of the general inspection. Since March 27, 2015, the 15th anniversary of the founding of the National Police, Costa was Deputy General Commander of the PNTL with the rank of Commissioner ( tetum Komisáriu ), based in the Sentru Formasaun Polísia in Comoro.

On March 27, 2019, Faustino da Costa was promoted to the new General Commander. Mateus Fernandes is now runner-up .

Awards

On March 18, 2011, Costa received the Medalha Solidariedade de Timor-Leste and on May 5, 2017 the Ordem de Timor-Leste . In addition to other medals, Costa also wears the Medalha Halibur .
