Alcino de Araújo Baris (born December 23, 1964 ) is an East Timorese politician and official.

Political career

Baris studied at Udayana University in Bali . In February 2000, Baris was sworn in as a public prosecutor in the country still under UN administration . He worked at the Dili District Court .

In 2002, when the country became independent , he became one of the two vice ministers for internal administration alongside Ilda da Conceição . On March 6, 2003 he became Vice Minister of the Interior. As a result of the unrest in East Timor in 2006 , Interior Minister Rogério Lobato resigned. Baris therefore became the new interior minister. He kept the office under the new Prime Ministers José Ramos-Horta (from July 14, 2006) and Estanislau da Silva (from May 19, 2007). It was only after the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2007 that Baris left the government on August 8th. In 2009 Baris became a member of the Conselho Superior do Ministério Publico and on July 15, Commissioner of the Comissão Nacional de Eleições (CNE), the national electoral commission. Baris was also a security advisor to Ramos-Hortas when he was President (2007–2012). Baris is currently President of the CNE (as of January 2017/2018).

In 2012 Baris received the Insígnia des Ordem de Timor-Leste . On October 23, 2017, Baris was appointed a member of the State Council by President Francisco Guterres .
