Gil da Costa Monteiro (2020)

Gil da Costa Monteiro , fighting name Oan Soru , is an East Timorese politician. He comes from the Ainaro region and is a veteran of the War of Independence against Indonesia (1975-1999).

In 2013 he was appointed by the President to the Council for the Award of East Timorese Orders and Decorations .

On June 22, 2018, Monteiro was sworn in as State Secretary for Veterans Affairs. He succeeds André da Costa Belo , who held the office from 2017 to 2018.

In 2018 Monteiro received the Ordem de Timor-Leste (Medal) for his services in the fight for freedom against the Indonesians.
