Mateus Ximenes Belo

Mateus Ximenes Belo (born November 28, 1948 in Baucau , Portuguese Timor ) is an East Timorese official.

Career

Belo attended the primary school in Ossu from 1957 to 1962, the preparatory school from 1962 to 1965 in Dili and the secondary school in Dili from 1970 to 1973.

Belo was a civil servant in the Portuguese Navy in Dili from 1967 to 1970 and from 1969 to 1971 employed the analysis laboratory of the Portuguese colonial administration. In 1971 he became a member of the finance department. In 1975 Portuguese rule over East Timor ended and the Indonesians occupied the country.

Belo became head of the information office in Baucau in 1977 , from 1979 to 1982 he headed the department for economics and development there before studying public administration in Indonesia. After graduation in 1985 Belo headed the Financial Services in Baucau to 1988. From 1988 to 1990 he was administrator of the sub-district Quelicai Subdistrict and 1990-1994 again head of the financial service in Baucau. Belo then became assistant to the district administrator of Baucau and from 1997 deputy administrator until the end of the Indonesian occupation in 1999.

Under UN administration , Belo was the administrator of the Manatuto district in 2001 and from the independence of East Timor from 2002 to 2008 he was the director general of the administration of the office of the president .

For the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT), Belo was a member of the National Parliament for one month in 2008 . In the 2007 elections, he ran for 20th place in the party. After that, Belo was again director general in the presidential office. In 2014 he moved to the national parliament as general secretary. In 2018, Belo was replaced as General Secretary by Adelino Afonso de Jesus.

Belo is married. In recognition of his services, Belo was awarded the Medal of the Ordem de Timor-Leste in 2012 .

In addition to Tetum , Belo speaks Portuguese, Indonesian and English.
