Gregório de Sousa

Gregório José da Conceição Ferreira de Sousa (* 1956?) Is an East Timorese politician and diplomat. He is a member of FRETILIN .

Career

Sousa has a degree in international relations and diplomacy. For 10 years he lived in Angola and Portugal and 20 years in Mozambique , where numerous East Timorese sought refuge after the Indonesian invasion in 1975. In 2000 Sousa returned to East Timor, where he initially worked in the Ministry of Economic Affairs under Marí Alkatiri .

From September 30, 2001 to August 8, 2007, Sousa was State Secretary for the Council of Ministers and thus in office both in the transitional government under the administration of the United Nations and under the first three Prime Ministers of the independent East Timor. In the new government, Sousa was replaced by Ágio Pereira ( CNRT ) after FRETILIN was defeated . In the same year, Sousa took over the functions of head of cabinet and civilian head (Chefe da Casa Civil) of the cabinet from President José Ramos-Horta . He remained in office until the end of the 2012 legislative period.

On May 13, 2014 Gregório de Sousa was appointed East Timor's new ambassador to Brazil , succeeding Domingos Francisco de Sousa . On August 13, 2019, Olímpio Branco was appointed the new ambassador to Brazil.
