E. Domingos Francisco de Jesus de Sousa (born June 14, 1947 in Laleia , Portuguese Timor ) is an East Timorese freedom activist, author and diplomat.

Career

Sousa studied philosophy from 1968 to 1972 at the University of Évora in Portugal and from 1980 to 1985 teaching at the Institute for Teacher Training of the Jesuits in Yogyakarta, Indonesia . He also received a Masters in Education from 1988 to 1990 after studying at the University of Pittsburgh .

From September 1999 until its dissolution in 2001, Sousa was a member of the National Political Commission of the Conselho Nacional de Resistência Timorense (CNRT), the umbrella organization of the East Timorese resistance against the Indonesian occupation (1975-1999). Sousa was one of the representatives still living in East Timor and not in exile abroad. In addition, he was president of the Associação dos Licenciados Timorenses pelo Referendo e Desenvolvimento de Timor (FORSAREPETIL, German  forum of the association of Timorese graduates for the referendum and for the development of Timor ).

At times Sousa was secretary ( Secretário Permanente ) in the Ministry of Culture in East Timor. From 2008, Sousa was East Timor's ambassador to Brazil until he resigned in 2014. He was succeeded by Gregório José da Conceição Ferreira de Sousa . He published several books on the East Timorese struggle against Indonesia.
