NGC 5831 is a 11.5 likes bright elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Virgo. It is estimated to be 74 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 45,000 ly. a. the galaxies NGC 5814 , NGC 5839 , NGC 5845 , NGC 5846 .
The object was discovered on February 24, 1786 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as “pB, S, mbM”.
