NGC 5843 is a 12.3 likes bright barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBb in the constellation Wolf at the southern sky . It is estimated to be 183 million light years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on May 3, 1834 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, who noted "vF, R, comparebM, 20 arcseconds" and "eF, E, vlbM, resolvable, 15 arcseconds long" for two observations.
