NGC 5845 is a Hubble-type E elliptical galaxy in the constellation Virgo, which is an estimated 66 million light years from the Milky Way . In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5839 , NGC 5841 , NGC 5846 , NGC 5850 .
The object was discovered on February 24, 1786 by the astronomer William Herschel with the help of his 18.7 inch reflector telescope and was later included in his New General Catalog by Johan Dreyer .
