NGC 5857 is a bar-spiral galaxy located in the constellation Bear Keeper and listed in the New General Catalog . It is estimated to be 216 million light years from the Milky Way . The galaxy was discovered on April 27, 1788 by the astronomer William Herschel with his 48 cm telescope.
