NGC 5876 = IC 1111 is a 12.9 mag bright bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Bear Guardian in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 153 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 105,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there is u. a. the galaxy NGC 5874 .
The object was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on June 11, 1885 . However, this observation contained an error of almost 5 minutes in the right ascension, so that his second observation on August 27, 1888 under IC 1111 led to an entry in the index catalog .
