The archives portal-D is an online information system and provides a sector-specific access to the data of the German Digital Library . The German archive portal was activated on September 24, 2014 and is designed as a central reference system for the holdings of German archives. It was implemented through a number of DFG projects with the participation of the State Archive of Baden-Wuerttemberg (lead), the Archives School Marburg , the State Archive of North Rhine-Westphalia , the Saxon State Archives , the FIZ Karlsruhe - Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure, since 2015, the German National Library and since 2018 of the Federal Archives .

Contents of the archive portal-D

In the German archive portal , contact information from archives, indexing services such as inventory overviews and finding aids as well as digitized archive material on the Internet are made available and presented for use. It is possible to conduct comprehensive research in all available finding aids of the participating archives and to display search results and digital copies from archive facilities in various sectors. Comparative research in the inventory structures of several institutions should be made easier and faster.

Professional presentation of archived data

A separate user interface was developed for Archivportal-D, which enables the professional representation of tectonics, classification and digitized archive material. In addition to the display and navigating access, the research was also specially tailored to the technical requirements. In addition, there are a number of personalized functionalities, such as B. the watch lists, the print and download function and extensive service information for the use of archive material. Through the development of interfaces to other archival portals such as the archive portal Europe, the archive portal-D was networked with other digital offers.

15.9 million data records from over 150 archives as well as further contact information on approx.2,600 archives are available online (as of July 2019) and thus cover the bandwidth of the German archive landscape. The content on offer will be gradually expanded through the participation of new archives or the contribution of additional holdings. By connecting archival regional portals, bundled data is transferred from individual federal states to the German archive portal, which in turn acts as an aggregator for the archive portal Europe.

The online offer is also to be equipped with new functionalities in the future and expanded to meet the requirements of scientific users. Currently, the establishment of a subject-specific access "Weimar Republic" is being implemented as part of a DFG project.

EAD (DDB) as delivery format

EAD (DDB), a profile of the international standard for the exchange of archival data - EAD (Encoded Archival Description), serves as the standard format for data deliveries to the Archivportal-D or the German Digital Library . This profile was developed in 2010-12 by a working group led by the Baden-Württemberg State Archives and has been continuously developed since then.
